Hornets Do Well In National Competition
Two squads from the Harrisburg Hornet Shooting Teams competed in
The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Championship
held at the World Shooting & Recreational Complex in Sparta,
Illinois on August 6th and 7th.
Both squads, Triple A and Double A, competed in the Intermediate
Division with consists of grads 6th through 8th. There were 85 squads
competing in the Intermediate Division. Harrisburg's Triple A squad
finished in 11th place and the Double A squad finished in 38th place.
Triple A squad members consist of: Jordan Harper, with a score of
96%, Calen Wallace 95.5%, Haden Zirbel 90%, Brett Long 90%, and
Garret Grubbs 86%. Double A squad members consist of: Hunter Traynom
84%, Landon Stotts 88.5%, Cary Traynom 93.5%, Daniel Grubbs 84.5%,
Holland Gandy 85% and Cale Reddmann 84%.
All team members competed in the National Team Race held on August
8th which consisted of Singles, Handicap and Doubles disciplines.
This is a major accomplishment to finish 11th place at the National
level, especially after competing for only 4 months.
Our Triple A squad finished 39 targets below 1st place with a score
of 914. The Ohio Sportsman Club Clay Crushers won the Intermediate
Division with a score of 953. This same Ohio team won last year
in the Intermediate Division.
Daniel Grubbs was in a shoot off in the handicap event o the 25
yard line for a Krieghoff K80 trap gun and made it to the second
round be fore being eliminated. The 25 yard line was not his normal
handicap yardage, his normal handicap yardage is the 19 yard line.
We were all penalized to the 25 yard line because we did not have
enough registered handicap targets in.
Coach Pat Turnage said he is very proud of al the kids, parents
and sponsors for making this season possible.
